Earth Tongue - Dungeon Vision

I went to Levitation earlier this month and the clear highlight for me was Earth Tongue. They’re a heavy psych duo from New Zealand and they sound amazing. I first heard them at Field of Vision earlier this year where they were my favorite new discovery.

Their music videos are great too. They’re shot on film with beautiful production design and color grading.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Alien Metal

King Gizzard’s highly anticipated techno-jungle-house-idm record Alien Metal came out in August and it’s so fun. For anyone new to the band, this is not a typical King Gizzard album, but really it’s hard to say what is a typical King Gizzard album. Most of their music is pretty guitar driven, spanning genres but orbiting around a common core of their flavor of psychedelic rock.

Alien Metal is their second deep dive into electronic music, after 2023’s The Silver Cord. I enjoy The Silver Cord, especially live, but I’ve already listened to Alien Metal far more in the past month than I listened to The Silver Cord since its release.

La Sécurité - Bingo!

This was another Levitation discovery for me. La Sécurité wasn’t performing at the festival, but DJ Boogie Boudreaux played the title track, Bingo!, on Sunday and it was one of many songs I shazamed during her set.

I don’t know much about La Sécurité yet, but I’ll certainly be trying to see them the next time they’re playing in the Bay Area. Their bass guitar tone and jagged guitar riffs really scratch a particular musical itch for me.
